Bridgerton

I am currently on vacation and decided to binge watch all 8 episodes of season 3 of Bridgerton.

While this season strayed from the extensive sex scenes that we saw in previous seasons, I appreciated how this season brought in scenes that presented different types of sex than what is normally portrayed in shows.

Before I watched the show I saw an interview with Nicola Coughlan where she shared that she made sure to include a full nudity scene in this season because she wanted to see representation. I was excited to see the scene she was talking about because she is a beautiful, curvaceous woman. After the hot make out session in the carriage in episode 4, my anticipation for the sex scene was heightened.

In episode 5, as Colin began to remove Penelope’s clothes, we got to see Penelope (Nicola) in her full glory and she was stunning! As Penelope and Colin’s bodies merged together through their love making it was truly breathtaking to see a curvy woman enjoying her body under the touch of her partner.

I also loved the inclusion of the sex scenes between Benedict, Lady Tilley, and Paul. We had been introduced to Benedict’s curiosities in previous seasons, but this was the season he decided to explore what it would be like to sleep with a male partner. Depicting a threesome between 2 men and 1 woman is not something you often see in television shows or movies. They are often depicted as 2 women and 1 man because culturally we have accepted women being bisexual, but for a man to be bisexual it is frowned upon.

The inclusion of both of these scenes brings to light different sexualities, that the existence of differing sexualities has existed for many, many years, and that it is important not to be shameful of one’s own sexuality. We are all attracted to different people, whether it be their gender or their beauty. We are all deserving of sex regardless of our identity.

If you’ve watched this season, or still have to do so, I hope that your mind is expanded through these scenes and you feel more secure in who you are and your sexuality.

Love always,

Jess
