Tuesday Booze

I didn’t ask for your time

because I knew you couldn’t give it to me

I didn’t ask for your commitment

because I knew as soon as the alcohol

made it out of your system

my bed’d be cold and empty

No traces of our bodies connecting

mere hours before

I simply asked for a dance

or two

on the dance floor

before the Tuesday booze

the in between moves

your weekend bender and

your never gonna drink again hangover

I saw the real you

and fell in love

but you had no clue

that I loved you

and would do anything for you

I called around

hotel after hotel

to make sure you made it

to work on time

I showed up to the meetings

I found you activities

I closed out the tabs

told the countless women to take cabs

Then I let you touch my naked skin

while you dreamt of other names

No, I didn’t ask for commitment

because at the end of the day I was just a game
